The Wall - A live dramatisation

Post by greatgigger »

PLAYBOX STAGE FIRST PRODUCTION OF THE WALL FOR OVER A DECADE

Playbox Theatre premiere the new creation The Wall written by Roger Waters for Pink Floyd at The Dream Factory, Warwick on Friday 16th November, following a preview on Thursday 16th November. Performances will continue until 24th November.

With the entire album performed live by acclaimed band Breathe – The Delicate Sound of Floyd, the new production features a cast of 50 young performers blending movement, urban dance, acrobatics and theatre. Calum Finlay plays the central role of Pink.

The Wall is directed by Artistic Director, Stewart McGill and is a companion piece to the 2006 production of The White Album, seen in both the UK and USA.

To accompany the production the show consultant Mark Cunningham, editor of industry journal Total Production International is helping develop a Front of House installation of rare Pink Floyd concert footage, large framed concert posters and original concert programmes for The Wall, alongside a photographic display of Floyd Wall shows.

Director Stewart McGill said, “Working in the rehearsal room with the cast is a real voyage of discovery. Already the power and passion of The Wall is re-ignited for today. I hope the event will appeal to audiences from a wide background and naturally Pink Floyd fans will be very welcome. The live sound is immense!”

The band is "Breathe" from Northampton. The theatre company is "Playbox" at the Dream Theatre.

If you came in on the Sunday afternoon (When a playful plug became disconnected) that was the third time that we've played with the cast - they dealt with the "pause", they moved on.... they are SO focussed, we're honoured to be a part of this. There's definitely a show going down.

RE: The Wall On Stage - At Playbox Theatre - Follow up

The whole experience was sublime.

The positive way that the cast approached each and every performance gave us a reason to have faith in the safe hands of the future generation.

The level of continued interest in the work; it was sold out.

We rigged down last night after the final event sharing a warm fuzzy (pink!) "euphoria blanket" - it's been an honour to play a part in bringing this complex and mighty work to the stage.

For anyone interested in how this project came about, here's a link to a Production Review, penned by Mark Cunningham, Editor of Industry Journal Total Productions International.

We were lucky enough to meet with Mark, he's a seemingly bottomless pit of information about Floyd, absolutely enthralling stuff.

Anyhoo - tinged with a little chagrin now because that chapter is over, but onwards and upwards; gigging again next Tomorrow and then we've pretty much agreed that we're up for working on another album: Animals. We'll aim to have this ready for the next season of shows starting February next year.

Best regards to you all

Dave
