Re. "Careful with that ax, Eugene," the music *was* the message! Who else but PF could, or would, perform such a work as such? Nobody I know. And no one since.

My favorite era too! I finally signed up for the forum. I used to collect Pink Floyd bootlegs long ago, pre-internet. I love the BBC recordings and those long live versions of Embryo; apparently Roger sees no reason in releasing an album of these recordings (something about poor quality and who would be interested!-ME!!!). Sure, like Unplugged, BBC Sessions albums smell of a cash grab, but they are also great archival documents for those with a passion. I still think the BBC version of Point Me At The Sky is slightly better than the studio version. And live stuff like this 1972 gig. Have you heard One of these Days live in Hollywood circa 1972/73; if my memory is correct, it has the longest most psycedelic middle sections (you know, the bass with delay build up to the spoken part). There are soundboard recordings from this era too...

Very nice video, on the same subject does anyone know how many shows were pro filmed? I'v been hoping the sucess of the recent Zep DVD would kick the floyd into action and get them to release something simular.

yeah I was thinking the same actually! I hope they do follow suit and release a full concert of that or something from the Animals tour! But i cant get my hopes up :(

And this video is great ive got a video of Careful With that axe Eugene live from the Royal Festival hall live in london 1972, but its the exact same video..... and the quality of mine is a bit better! What is the correct date? Can i send this to you somehow Kieth and then you can share it with everybody?

Eugine video

Post by Xoger »

I was at this gig - or maybe the other night they played Earls Court. It was my first rock gig and I was STUNNED. A great set - as I recall it was oldies (Eugine, One of these days, Dominie, ...), Dark Side and Echoes for an Encore. It remained the most satisfying Floyd performance I saw until the Division Bell tour. (I saw The Wall twice, and they were good but more like Son-at-lumiere than music).

I really like a lot of the pre-DSOTM, DSOTM and WYWH Floyd; Division Bell was pretty good too. I remmeber searching high and low for a copy of the Harvest sampler "Picnic: a breath of fresh air" to get my first version of Embryo and buying a greek(?) single version of Point Me at The Sky which was very disappointing. I remember reading about a 30 min version of Point - I'd love to hear that.

I suspect that I'm the only person who likes Atom Heart Mother and More. Cymbeline and Green is the Colour are great songs.

I love this stuff. I downloaded a 26 min. version of Embryo recently! I would love to hear any live version of Point Me At The Sky (not the common BBC stuff), let alone a long version! More is a great album...
