July 7th 2006, Syd Barrett died from complications arising from diabetes aged 60. The singer, songwriter, guitarist was one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, active as a rock musician for only about seven years before he went into seclusion. He joined Pink Floyd in 1965 but left three years later after one album. He went on to live as a recluse, with his mental deterioration blamed on drugs.

Well, moomster, not anymore...
Syd was a legendary man that had a great influence on other people with his wacko self and made some really groundbreaking, good music.
But, to make allmost a religion out of that man is simply too cheesy for my taste.
May he just rest in peace.

I'm not making a religion, thus not cheesing...Damn!t wrote:Well, moomster, not anymore...

It's just that it's something I believe. Of course he's resting.

Well, IMO some people make religions out of the silliest of things so why not a reclusive former musician who's now deceased? As long as his legacy still provides inspiration and happiness to individuals, what's the harm in that?Damn!t wrote:But, to make allmost a religion out of that man is simply too cheesy for my taste.
Actually, if you are referring to those that attempt to live their lives vicariously through him not to mention those idiots who door-stepped him over the past 20 years, then yeah, I totally agree with you. Its one thing to admire and appreciate a talented individual, but it's another to think that person "speaks" to them or that they have the right to invade their privacy simply because they were once public figures. Mind you, I think those that obsess over him to the point where it goes beyond reality have emotional issues any way so I can't really despise them too much even though I don't agree with their compulsions. It's simply not their fault.
Anyway, Roger's physical presence will always be missed, but for me (and I'm sure for him as well), Syd Barrett died in 1974.

I think Syd's Octopus sounds a lot like the Grateful Dead's Doin' that Rag off Aoxomoxoa. I prefer Octopus though.
