Why does it have a pick up switch knob? It only has one pick up...

The output from the pickup was routed through a few different options regarding capacitors. Instead of just having the tone control, you could also set a maximum brightness by having some capacitance always present in the circuit.rosm wrote:Why does it have a pick up switch knob? EVen on the first 2 pickup telecasters, the middle setting on the switch was NOT a combination of the two pickups' output, but was merely the bridge pickup being routed through a capacitor before hitting the tone and volume controls.

ThanQ... I've read it a few times... don't quite understand it completely, but does that work as some sort of pre-amp... or brightness booster? Syd definitely had a very sharp and bright sound sometimes.

Re: Syd's mirrored esquire replica!
Unanswered question of the past 40 years. Didn't Syd just "give away" all of his guitars when he left London to return to Cambridge? Who knows where it is. I would think if it still existed intact, someone would have come forward with the knowledge by now, knowing it is worth a fortune.Damn!t wrote:Btw., where is the original geetar?

Re: Syd's mirrored esquire replica!
Teresa, I'm with you on this. Most, if not all, of his guitars (with the exception of the Spanish guitar that sold with his possessions after his death) are now probably lost in the annals of history.
As for what happened to his esquire, I believe he confirmed in an interview (can't remember which one) that he swapped it for the guitar he's holding in the Madcap photo session. He claimed to be pissed about that because he had a special "bond" with his esquire and couldn't quite connect with the one he traded it for.

Re: Syd's mirrored esquire replica!
Its a passive setup, but Syd's brightest tones (think Nick's Boogie) sound like the Esquier with the bridge pickup on full, with no treble reduction from the tone knobs. Its an amazingly versatile guitar for 1 pickup! Think about the driving rhythm tones of Interstellar Overdrive to see the sheer force you could get out of it!rosm wrote:ThanQ...
