NPF's Very Own Household Objects

Post by Keith Jordan »

I just had this crazy idea. Should we make out own "Household Objects" recording? People from all around the world can record strange sounds from around their households and perhaps I or someone else will be creative and put it all together in a sound-scape.

Thoughts?

Keith Jordan, you are a tortured genius. We must do this.

Are you looking for just random samples and clips, or completed songs? Either way, I'd be glad to contribute. I've always wanted to do a song / soundscape made up entirely of improvised instruments.

I think the results might be a little bit more coherent and interesting if people contributed whole pieces constructed of their household object sounds, because then each person could conceptualize and create the piece, instead of just sending in a bunch of random sounds for one person to figure out what to do with. Then I think we'd get a lot more variety of pieces too.

I think completed pieces is the way ahead!

I had the same idea when Sean mentioned a "lost album" in the "Back to back to back to..." thread, but I thought it was insane.

I'm in too, if I get to mix my own song. There'll be plenty of time to record during Easter holidays.

I have already made recordings of this sort, but destroyed them. This might be one project I could contribute to.

I think a Pink Floyd inspired instrumental album (think Ummagumma, Saucerful, Interstellar Overdrive...you get the picture) would be more interesting. Household objects would also be welcome on such a thing.

That's sort of what we've decided to do with the Back to Square One thing, Terry. A lost Pink Floyd album from 1969. Though there will be some vocal tracks on it, I know some are planning instrumentals. You should get involved, I'm sure you could make a great contribution, just like you did for Double Core.

Pink Floyd never realized this crazy idea - crazy and daring idea as they now were a commercial succesfull rockband
after the big hit of dark side -
but cool if NPF will make out a "Household Objects" recording instead

Fun and interesting! How is the project going?
