Great Gig in the Sky... (and more)

Post by Angelina »

Hi everyone,
Glad to meet a community here sharing a common passion! :)
Here is a track, which evolved spontaneously in the largest Music Forum of Bulgaria, in the sub-forum entitled Jam.

The Great Gig in the Sky
Piano, Hammond & Synth: Aquarelle (Alex)
Slide guitars: BlueZone (Bobby Zasheff)
Vocals: Angelina (myself)

Being in the Jam section of the Bulgarian music forum, the track is bound to undergo further interpretations… If you enjoy it, I’ll post more. We may go for other tracks, too.
Your comments are most welcome!
Kind regards,
Angelina

That's some voice you got there, neighbour! Although I didn't like the guitar and keys arrangements that much, I must say that your vocal performance is very, very good. I was expecting some lame whining (because that's usually what I hear in the GGITS covers) and I was pleasantly surprised. Keep up with the good work.

^10x, Admin!
Hudini, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just a point, the backtrack is deliberately kept simple, so as to leave room for other jammers. The Hammond part, though, bears some 'Led Zeppelin' mood, but I like it.
I wanted to get opinions from people who are versed and perceptive about PF music, and I really appreciate your replies to my post.
Any others?
(Is there anybody out there?)

Wicked!

The vocal is superbly sung (could be recorded better, but it's a jam, hey!). The piano and slide guitar are also very fine, stylistically (if not note-for-note) very true to the original.

The electronic keys ('hammond' and synth) are a considerable departure, not only from the original arrangement, but also from Floyd's obsession with sound perfection. IMHO both parts could be very interesting with a different choice of sound: something closer to a real B3, warmer and with a more subtle 'Leslie' effect, and a better synth pad for the improvised line near the end.

Could it be that the (somewhat distorted, overdone) sounds of these keyboard instruments were confused for electric guitar at some point? Or what was it exactly that Hudidni didn't like in the gutar and keys?

Overall I find this light years from your local pub jam, these are accomplished musicians that could give more than one touring tribute band a run for their money :D

Thank you so much!

Well, I can't say I'm an accomplished musician... :-({|=
However, a longer version of the backing track was compiled, the mix is much better, too.
And I'm thinking of posting it here for whoever of you, guys, is willing to give it a try...
I feel so curious about it.
I'll be back...

^And so are any guitar (or other) solo jams from you on the empty track...

I'm afraid not.
But I'll consider the option (if anyone of you turns out to be Dave Gilmour...)
