David Gilmour did guitar, bass and some vocals on the Chicago song that was released today.

You can download it from here > http://www.londontv.net/freegarymckinnon.html

HiRes Front cover and insert.

According to Gary's mum, Janis, "Another version of this track will be released in a few weeks by a different producer and with different artists. Video is in the process of being filmed."

P.S. If you use Digg.com, feel free to "Digg" this news article here. ;-)

So, what do you think of the song/recording/cause after listening to it?

Lyrics to David Gilmour's Version of Chicago by Graham Nash

So your brother's bound and gagged
And they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come from Chicago just to sing
In a land that's known as freedom how can such a thing be fair
Won't you please come from Chicago for the help that you can bring

We can change the world, rearrange the world
It's dying - to get better

Politicians sit yourselves down, there's something for you here
Won't you please stand up in London for our Lives
Don't ask Jack to help you cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please stand up in London and join us side by side

We can change the world, rearrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice
Dying - and if you believe in freedom
Dying - Stand for Autistic Rights
Dying - and a world we can believe in, open up the door

Somehow people must be free, so help the day comes soon
Won't you please come from Chicago show your face
From the bottom of the ocean to the mountains of the moon
Won't you please stand up in London no one else can take your place

You can change the world rearrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice
Dying - and if you believe in freedom
Dying - Give Gary back his life
Dying - make a world we can believe in, open up the door

Aren't you glad that you live in a society where you're allowed freedom of speech? It's a good thing we do because that idiot NEEDS to pull some time for his little stunt he pulled. And of course the flower power hippies are standing up for him.

I totally love David Gilmour the musician with all my heart, make no mistake about that, but do you really think he'd have done this "rubbish" (the cause is, anyways) if it were HIS personal business this clown McKinnon hacked into? Musically, there is NOTHING The Gilmour does that isn't brilliant, IMO. But man, some of the causes he champions really makes me scratch my head alot of the time. But it's his right to do so, so there ya go.

Make love not war. Pe@ce, man.

I think David's brother in law is friends with the family or something. Might explain the cause. The song itself isn't any great departure from the original. It sounds like it was recorded with a €50 Casio keyboard on Demo mode. David's vocals sound strained on it as well I think. But then, charity songs don't really set the world on fire, do they?

Who is it that ALLOWS freedom of speech? My vocal chords, language and my thoughts are what allow freedom of speech. Just because some military regimes lock people up for expressing unpopular views does not mean that I am lucky to be allowed to speak my mind. It means that those people who lock you up or kill you for expressing an opinion are the scum of the world. I don't need to be allowed to be free. The oppressors need to be allowed to oppress. And they have been.

I agree. I would not pay 1 penny for this song to support this guy. He broke the law, plain and simple.

I dont want to hear about "but he does not live in the USA"... ask Mark Emery about that... is it wrong? perhaps, but the law is the law and the US government is very big on picking and chossing what laws they want to enforce and what they dont...

I can't say i feel strongly about the cause or the prospect of a new David Gilmour song (covering a Graham Nash one, no less) so haven't gotten around to hearing it yet. I'm actually kind of undecided about if i support the cause at all or not. What do you guys think?

I've got mixed feelings about it really. Looking again at Keith's article it's not hard to see why the US authorities want to get their hands on him. If he did what he's alleged to have done, it's a very serious crime.

On the other hand, is 60 years in chokey the right place for someone who's got Asperger's?

Is 20 years in jail the right place for someone who smokes pot (a natural plant - much like tabacco) and has no criminal record other then possesion of pot and no record of violence or crimes against others?

Just becouse the guy has Asperger's is not an excuse for his actions.
If this site was hacked into and transgender porn was to replace the pink floyd theme, I think many here would see this in a better light.

I will say, I dont think 60 years fits the crime, but he did hack into USA computers and he did violate US law. Regardless of where he lives or did it from, he should held accountable for his actions.

Sure the USA could ignore this much like they do immagration laws and many other laws, but they seem to have chosen to enforce this one.

I think active homosexuals in the USA are breaking laws that are in place in Saudi Arabia. They should be extradiated, so they can be executed for breaking these laws.

The active homosexuals in the USA dont break the law in country they reside. In some states in the USA sodomy is illegal still however... (then again - driving with a pig in the front seat without a seatbelt on is illegal in North Carolina... :? )

The laws this guy broke are a pretty big deal - Its also illegal in most if not all Europe to hack into computers.
It is very common for hackers if caught to be extradiated to the state/country they hacked into.
Regardless of his issues mentally, He knew he was breaking the law and he is more then able to maintain a normal lifestyle.

Granted, I myself would love to do what he did, but I know I would get in alot of trouble. He knew that, but perhaps thought becouse of where he lives, he could not get in real trouble...
People with his issues are more then able to live out normal lives and do well in society. His issues has nothing to do with this.

It all comes down to the fact he broke some major national and international laws, got caught, and is now looking for his best chance to get out with as little "damage" as possible. Nothing none of us would not try to do if we were in his shoes.

Just my opinion.

As for the song, I heard enough of the early copy, I did not care for it, I doubt I would think anything else of this version. Perhaps when I can listen for free, I will give it a go, but I cant bring myself to pay for it.

Gary McKinnon misused computers by accessing somthing from the internet that he shouldn't have. This was not a terrorist act, he was just being stupid in his pursuit for information. He shouldn't be sent to a foreign country to face trial for terrirism given America's track record on its treatment of foreign nationals including ones from England recently.

He should get 10 years or something in England, not life in the USA. He didn't commit his crime in the USA.

His actions were against US computers located on US property. It does not matter where he was - His crimes were against the USA.

Mark Emery never stepped foot on US soil, yet he is going to jail in the USA - The DEA actually went to Canada to buy from him, which is legally outside the jurisdiction of the DEA.

I do agree however that 10 years in jail in England should suffice, but thats not what the powers that be here in the USA want.

1 - His actions were against US computers located on US property.

2 - It does not matter where he was - His crimes were against the USA.

3 - Mark Emery never stepped foot on US soil, yet he is going to jail in the USA - The DEA actually went to Canada to buy from him, which is legally outside the jurisdiction of the DEA.

1 - Yes, but he didn't commit the crimes whilst located in your country. He broke the law whilst located in England. Your own country does respect this law (regarding what people do in foreign countries is nothing to do with the domestic country) which is the reason for the existence and usage of Guantanamo Bay to torture human beings on flimsy evidence, including British Citizens. That would not be done in a regular prison in, say, Washington DC would it?

2 - That means you do not respect other countries boundaries and right to self-government without intervention of American Foreign Policy? There is no extradition pact between our countries so he should not be extradited there. Simples.

3 - I have never heard of him but American Foreign Policy at work again? :D

4 - I am glad you agree. He does indeed need punishing for what he did. But it needs to be proportional to what his intentions were, the actual crime he is proven to have committed and must be tried and he serve his time in the UK. It is the only fair way in my opinion.

With respect.

ohhh snap, was I just Keithified?

1. Perhaps.
2. If there is no extradition treaty, then really the USA has questionable right to him.
3. Mark Emery - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Emery
4. I think if England tries him for what he is guilty of, that should be fair enough - but the big brother here is the USA that likes to call themselves our federal government is a bit dirty as you all know already.

Perhaps he should just hack into the US legal system's computers and reverse the decision ?
