Big Pink Floyd Survey - Part 4 - Favourite Songs and Fan Self-Ratings
When it came to choosing your favourite Pink Floyd song when completing the survey 6 months ago, I bet some of your experienced real trouble just narrowing it down to one favourite. Some of you may have been like me though and just knew which it was. Mine is the glorious Echoes and just so happens to be their best according to the survey.
I was not lucky enough to watch it being performed live by the whole Pink Floyd but I was fortunate enough to watch it being performed by David Gilmour, Richard Wright and the rest of David’s On an Island touring band back in 2006 at Manchester Bridgewater Hall. Words cannot describe!
Anyway, you voted for your favourite Pink Floyd songs and here they are...

Fan “Self-Rating”: How Much of a Fan are you?
I included this question in the survey as I thought it would be a good thing to group fans by in order to look at the favourite albums of casual fans and hardcode fans separately. I had hoped to see what different groups of people like.
As you can see below, everybody believes they are hardcore fan. Well, I challenge some of them on that as some voted that the David Gilmour led era of Pink Floyd was better than the Roger Waters “classic years”! Shame on them!
Anyway, the average fan gave them self a rating of 9.3/10 for how much of a fan they are! Not too useful but there you go. Pink Floyd fans are certainly dedicated.

yes, that's an idea! Somebody wants to ask dead fans about their favourite songs? Anybody?Duckboy wrote:i wonder how much different it would be if you counted every fan living and dead
I didn't take part in this survey, but Echoes is (are?) also my favourite song!
And few people voted that they are 1/10 fans... I wonder how it's possible that they answered all the questions, about favourit member etc.

I think the sample size is large enough to be 95% accurate of what all Floyd fans think. Perhaps.

I am shocked Money didn't crack the top 40. It may be the most overplayed Floyd song, but it is a great one and I figured it was a lock for the top 10.

Indeed Wally1912, it only just missed out on the top 40. Came in at number 42.

Re: Floyd Survey - Pt4 - Favourite Songs and Fan Rating
My favorite song by far didn't make any list. Raving and Drooling is, in my opinion, the best piece of work Roger Waters has ever written. It is intense and dark like no other Floyd song. Yes, I know it turned into Sheep, but I find Raving and Drooling much better. The lack of lyrics during the one part just brings out the intenseness and almost 'evilness' of the song more, and Raving and Drooling does not have the stupid computer voiced part Sheep has. Too bad it was never recorded for real, but both the '75 LA Forum and Boston shows are great versions of the song. Whenever I am in a bad mood that's a song I can just crank up...
(Just FYI - You Gotta Be Crazy, which turned into Dogs is almost exactly the same song, and I never thought it was that great a song anyway...)

The beat and feel of Raving and Drooling is impeccable! An amazing song!

Yes, Raving and Drooling is a great song. The muddy bootleg sound almost makes it better. And to think that all those mainstream listeners out there already think that Floyd is dark and depressing....they should listen to this!
I didn't participate in the survey, but I am still surprised that Eclipse and Any Colour You Like (bookend/link pieces) rated above Money. At least it polled better than "Other"! I presume that the survey will throw up Meddle as the best album, based on the fact that Echoes takes up side 2. Is this a case of fans avoiding "the obvious"? Certainly made the survey interesting - well done! Anyway, I'm off to listen to some Zabriske Point outtakes - far better than anything they officially released. Kidding, really.

Meddle did well in the album ratings and got into position 5. That will be shown in the next part of the survey when I get round to writing it in the coming couple of weeks!
