Anyone see Syd Barrett performing live?

Post by Keith Jordan »

He only played 9 concerts in total as a solo artist but did you see him play at any of them?

If not, did you see him performing with Pink Floyd? Care to share your memories of that?

Not seen him myself, he's retired from music before I was born. But someone I used to know saw Pink Floyd at the Bournemouth Winter Gardens, during the Hendrix tour in November 1967. From what he told me, Syd did play, but it wasn't one of his better day (he looked like he didn't want to be there). Apparently the band was VERY loud.
FWIW, someone over on the Late Night discussion forum saw Syd at one of the Stars gigs in 1972

What a treat! You should make enquiries as to whether or not he took any photos! I believe there are no known photos from Syd Barrett solo concerts? How in the world could that be?

There's 3 or 4 photos from the June 6 1970 Olympia gig, one of which is the cover of Random Precision, and 1 photo (albiet not very good quality) of a bearded Syd at one of the Stars gigs.

I knew a gentleman who used to follow them in Europe in '66. He said that at times Syd played "as good as Hendrix" and that it was really tragic that those shows were never recorded...
