Should David Gilmour Tour About Face & Gilmour Solo Albums?

Post by Keith Jordan »

Should David Gilmour Tour About Face & Gilmour Solo Albums? There was a VHS of him playing Hammersmith Apollo in the 1980s. Here he is rocking out! I would definitely be up for some 80s revival, this would be such a good concert! 8)

The 1978 Gilmour album would be awesome to hear live again. So many good songs. I never understood why he never ever played some of those songs again after the 84 tour. It would be much more entertaining than the OaI stuff.

I think he should recreate the video for Blue Light on stage. Now that would make for an interesting visual spectacle.

I can't understand why both Gilmour and Waters insist so much on playing Pink Floyd songs over so many good songs from their solo albums, but at least Gilmour kept the ratio at about 60:40 percent in favour of Pink Floyd songs on his last tour, and played some PF stuff that has been played very rarely or hasn't been played for a long time, such as "Wots... Uh The Deal" and "Echoes". Waters only played 4 or 5 of his own songs during "In The Flesh" tour and even less during DSOTM tour, to end up with none on his current tour.

However, I do understand that there are Pink Floyd fans who don't give a damn about either Waters' or Gilmour's musical efforts outside Pink Floyd and much, much more occasional followers who give even less damn about Pink Floyd songs that don't appear on DSOTM, WYWH or "The Wall", but it is a sad thing that they actually do their shows for those people, rather then people who might be sick and tired of listening to the same old songs over and over again...

Hi, I'm the only person who voted no. Nothing against Dave, it's just that I think the moment has gone.
But if he digs out his white sweater etc...

Would be pretty silly for him to tour two fairly unsuccesful albums, but i would like to see him incorporating some of the better songs in to his setlist. Maybe now that he isn't touring OAI as a whole then he may choose to experiment with the songs again and see if he can bring them up to his satisfaction again

I'm sure Keith's tongue wasn't planted firmly in his cheek when he posted this...
What would be interesting though is how well tickets would sell if he did tour those albums now. It's very unlikely that a new Pink Floyd album will ever be made, David Gilmour is arguably better known now than he was back then and crucially, it's rare that he stirs out these days and performs live, let alone tours. So a live David Gilmour show could be a more viable commodity these days than back when he toured About Face.

We could all dress up in cloth caps, scarfs and blue overalls, go along the front row and go "Alright guv'ner!" to him as he walks on before holding a sign saying "We're from the estate that got built on your land in the early 70's!"
