what he should do is put out an official dvd of that 1984 Hammersmith Odeon show
it would have been very cool if he'd played a toon or two from those two albums during his last tour
but I thought he did a good job of playing some obscure and unexpected songs, and changing the setlist as the tour progressed
except for that one dreadful song from the Division Bell he cant seem to walk to the corner store without playing yet again
it would have been even cooler if he'd played songs from those 2 solo albums during the 1987 tour, as it was now his band to do with as he chose, and some of those songs are better than some of the songs off MLoR
anybody know: when was the last time he did play any of those songs?
Should David Gilmour Tour About Face & Gilmour Solo Albums?

Actually, I think that the Gdansk version of that dreadful tune is the best they ever played.J Ed wrote:except for that one dreadful song from the Division Bell he cant seem to walk to the corner store without playing yet again

whoops thats what I get for making innuendos
the dreadful toon I dont like that he plays too much is Coming Back to Life
I just checked my copy of Gdansk, and surprise surprise he actually resisted to urge to give us yet another live release of that one
High Hopes I always enjoy, especially the pedal steel bit at the end

I agree on "Coming Back To Life". Absolutely dreadful. It sounds like it was produced by the "Needs More Cowbell" guy.
On the other hand, "High Hopes" is one of the best Pink Floyd songs, whatever anyone said, and the Gdansk version of it is more than just beautiful.

The one that I dislike is A great day for freedom. That's an horrific dirge.
Be fab to hear him dig out There's no way out of here and Murder for starters. I know the former's a cover version but it's a great song.

I was just watching that last night and agree the duet w Roy Harper is a highlight
Roy adds a few bits to the song, did he do a version on one of his own albums?
watching all those songs, its notable the ones from Daves first album are better than the second
the 2nd album songs he seems to be trying to hard to come up with an Important new song
whereas the first album songs are all sweeping and eerie yet unpretentious

If Gilmour does release another album and follows it with a tour, I'd love it if he played a smattering of different solo songs in the first half of the set and then returned after the break with some Floyd classics. Would be nice to hear some of the stuff off his older albums, especially "David Gilmour," plus it'd mean more bootlegs to collect =D

I would be curious to see how a concert with just solo stuff would go off. I believe he would do alright. Although this might seem like sacrilege for me to say here, I really don't think he needs any Floyd songs to carry his act, even Comfortably Numb.
Getting out of the past a little bit may be just the thing to help bring about new creative sparks.

Yeah but if we want him to get out of the past then he'd only play stuff from his new album and On An Island =P

By "the past" I meant the past with Pink Floyd. I think he might do well just doing David Gilmour and seeing where that goes.

Now there's a chilling thought. They'd have to administer caffeine injections at the door so that the patrons didn't fall asleep during the gizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzjambo wrote:Yeah but if we want him to get out of the past then he'd only play stuff from his new album and On An Island =P
