I came across this on the Neil Young website a while ago: http://www.neilyoung.com/messagepage.html
Interesting. Thoughts?
EDIT: I thought I posted this in the "general music discussion" section...but, apparently not.

"The formal announcement will take place at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2012"

It would be nice to have a superior audio format that can replace mp3 without taking up too much space on my music player.
If they can somehow manage to put SACD quality audio onto a personal media player then that would be WOW.

I wonder what difference it will make, with so much of newer music compressed to the same high "loudness" levels,(as mentioned in the Op article) not to mention artistic content.
A great article from several years ago now that discusses it well:

I also wonder whats the point when most people listen to music on earbuds or tinny little computer speakers
I find good speakers make the biggest difference in the listening experience, but then Im listening to vinyl on my good speakers arent I

Well, I have heard Neil Young's Archive box on blu-ray, and it sounds awesome!!! BUT, Neil is a bit of an audiophile, so he wouldn't allow compression, brick walling, etc...I guess it is up to the so-called "artist" to insist on such a thing.
