What are your favorite Roger Waters lyrics?
I'm looking for lyrics that aren't popular opinion; 'Two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl' and other popular lyrics written by him don't count.
Mine would either be 'Ashes and diamonds, foe and friend, we were all equal in the end' from 'Two Suns In The Sunset', or 'Is it dogma, doughnuts, ridicule faith? Fear of the dark, or shame or disgrace? That we would choose to kill the child?' from 'To Kill The Child'.
What about you guys?

Well I clearly can't use "Time". So either "Free Four","Corporal Clegg" or even "Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk".
Back when Roger actually wasn't afraid to appear humourous instead of the miserable bugger he became.
I like Two Suns In The Sunset, but if we really are "all equal in the end", it should have ended in a full on Tango.

You can relax on both sides of the tracks
And maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
And everyone has recourse to the law
And no one kills the children anymore
No one kills the children anymore
When a friend dies and the tears rise
From that deep well that never runs dry
And the women break their bracelets
And the men take their whisky outside
We left them there when they were young
The men were gone until the west was won
And now there's nothing left but time to kill
You never took us fishin' dad and now you never will

The entirety of the song "The Final Cut", but specifically the lines "through the fisheyed lens of tear stained eyes, I can barely make out the shape of this moment in time".
It's just a brutally honest depiction of depression.

'And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around...'
It's not just the words, it's the rhythm and rhymes within it. There are countless examples in Waters-era PF, showing words as part of the music in addition to their meaning.

Animals has a lot of my favourite lines from Waters for sure. "Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream" on "Sheep" is a favourite of mine, both for the line and the cadence he sings it in on the track.penguinzzz wrote: Mon May 30, 2022 12:37 am 'And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around...'

Waters' inability to use subtlety biting him in the backside once again there.Djgilmour wrote: Sun Aug 21, 2022 11:20 pm “ Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?

Also from that song:
"Meek and obedient, you follow the leader down well-trodden corridors into a valley of steel."
