Post by henno »

lets have a thread to compare different music gigs / festivals happening this summer (or whatever season it is, wherever you are in the world)

ill start.
this little beauty is only about 8km from my house:
https://forestfest.ie/

fantasic line up including indie classics such as James, alabama 3 and Suede, the pop of nik kershaw, suzzane vega and gabrielle and the folkyness of the proclaimers, paul brady and big country. Theres a sneaky rumour that sister sledge is also playing this.

ive Pulp to see next month, the "electric picinc" in september featuring fred again, the killers, jonny marr and the big one i want to see this year, Idles. hopefully the undercard to this gets filled out with some more interesting acts as well.
https://www.electricpicnic.ie/line-up/

closing out the summer with The National in late september. looking forward to that one.

anyone else doing anything interesting?
recommendations for new acts always appreciated!

Not a huge fan of Guns'N'Roses but Glastonbury looks good as I'll be trying to watch the Manic Street Preachers set online.
Seriously can't afford festivals these days. And wish I went to them more when money was dancing around.

I will attend the Shindig Festival ... it's walking distance for me and I receive a freebie 'local' ticket -

Done five festivals this year, Wild Roots in Sligo, iffy lineup although got to see the fantastic Inspiral Carpets but fun and fantastic weather all the same. Next up was Body & Soul where I got to see Moderat and Fever Ray and live jungle act from London call Fabio Grooverider among others. I did All Together Now in Waterford and watched Iggy Pop still rocking it out at 76 years old. Field Day in London to see the enigmatic Aphex Twin and finally Electric Picnic, mainly staying away from the main stage stuff which was piffle but did catch IDLES, Viagra Boys, Young Fathers, the mighty De Danann and Paddy Keenan. If your wondering how I could afford all of these events I worked at the four Irish ones doing the pre-event volunteering the week before, the Aphex gig I paid bobs for and boy, London can be expensive. I'll put my blog reviews for each event here if you fancy a geek.

Ah good man Niall!!!

I'm sydthebeat from over on boards.ie
Didn't realise you were here too!

To everyone, Niall here is a very regular festival goer, very very well versed in everything "festivally", volunteers as staff for a lot of them.

Always love your reviews as well.

I was supposed to get to electric picnic this year but COVID kicked the crap out of me and I had to sell on our tickets.
That would have been our last EP for a while, it's just gotten too big and main stream.

We're heading to 'all together now' next year to taste something different.

I went to see the Good Things festival with my girlfriend, saw:
A local death metal band named Nembetoulik,
Enter Shikari
Bloom
Slaughter To Prevail (a brilliant performance, we were 5 people away from the mosh pit; I would get trampled in there honestly)
Pennywise (The highlight for me; screaming the lyrics to 'Bro Hymn', 'Fuck Authority' and 'Society', I was lucky I still had my voice)
We saw someone else that I can't remember here, then there was:
Corey Taylor (now I'm REALLY lucky I didn't lose my voice; brilliant performances of Snuff, Duality, Song #3, and, of course, Spongebob Squarepants)
Bullet For My Valentine (better recorded I thought; didn't like the live band that much, very underwhelming)
Limp Bizkit (Fred Durst, a wanker as usual)
And finally, Spiderbait (just amazing).

I'm also going to see Foo Fighters tomorrow at Rod Laver Arena with the bass player in one of my bands and one also one of my best friends.
Should be good!

Ah, I forgot! We also saw Devo at Good Things as part of their farewell tour!
Sad to see them go but glad I got to see them nonetheless. Brilliant band, brilliant peformance.

I don't care for festivals and shows these days, too much wasted time and money IMO. Long crowds, chance of having to stand annoying people, almost a whole day spent to organize for a couple of hours of show (if it is a large arena).

I love YouTube and Spotify.
