John has always been my favorite beatle, closely followed by george harisson. I like his work with the beatles the most, but some of his solo stuff is really ok, songs like: instant karma, woman is the nigger of the world, mind games, cold turkey or I don't wanna be a soldier, are really cool... if you ask me

His first two solo albums are classics, and can stand up with his work with The Beatles. However, his quality control began to slip by 1972 (that years SOMETIME IN NEW YORK CITY album is bloody awful), but the albums he did release contained some great songs. WALLS & BRIDGES is particular could have been a classic, but it was way too overproduced. The demos of the songs from the album are superior to the finished product in many ways, especially those on the LENNON ANTHOLOGY boxset. Who knows what he could have acheived in the 80's, 90's and beyond, but I guess that's something for another thread.

John Lennon was a visionary, a lyrical master and a genius in general.

His assassination (and it WAS an assassination,) has left a void in this world that can never be filled.

Mark David Chapman is, in my humble yet outspoken opinion, the greatest waste of genetic material to come down the pike in quite some time.

Lennon, in the same opinion, was to The Beatles what Waters was to Floyd. He was the artistic sensibility to McCartney's (Gilmour's) commercial intuitions.

If you've never read In His Own Write or A Spaniard In The Works (in some used bookstores, you can even find them in the same book) FIND AND READ THEM!!
