These are probably the best American band who never made it when alternative music became huge in the early '90s. The Chainsaw Kittens predated and outlasted that time with its own energetic blend of glam and punk rock basics. The Oklahoma-based group formed in 1989 and released their debut, Violent Religion in 1990. Prior to second album in 1992 Flipped Out in Singapore, which was produced by Butch Vig, they toured with groups like the Smashing Pumpkins. In 1993 they released an EP called Angel on the Range and in 1994 they released what many think was their breakthrough album, Pop Heiress. The self-titled album Chainsaw Kittens was released in 1996 and their to date final album All-American was released in 2000.
So if you like the Flaming lips try these fellow Oklahomans. The Flips covered "She's Gone Mad," and did a really good job of it.
