Ok, here's one (might be hard to find, I'll try to upload it somewhere)

The Triffids - Lonely Stretch

Ok, who? Well The Triffids were an amazing folk rock band in the 80's, who made a bunch of great albums, but split in '90 frustrated by the lack of commercial success. This song is one of the highlights from their most acclaimed album Born Sandy Devotional, released in 1986. Spooky atmosphere and brilliant lyrics, check it out! Nick Cave fans might like it at least! 8)

Here's the lyrics:

Lonely Stretch

I took a wrong turn off of an unmarked track
I did seven miles I couldn't find my way back
Hit a lonely stretch, must be losing my touch,
I was out of my depth
Land was so flat, could well have been ocean
No distinguishing feature in any direction
I took her down inch-by-inch to the floor
And I pointed her nose through a crack in the door
Fingering my silver St Cristopher
and saving my empty shells for her
When night closed in up around my neck
My high beam dug deep into the black
And a shiver broke out up and down my back
Yes a shiver broke out up and down my back
Well I could have been mistaken
But I swear that I caught something in my headlights
on that cold night, without another living thing in sight
Without another living soul in sight

I sing Sha Ia, sha Ia Ia
I hit a lonely stretch
Oh baby I was wrong I was wrong from the start
You could die out here from a broken heart
We were two wrongs we were married at birth
And together make up one ugly flaming bird
Heck I pumped it and then I moved up into third
Could have sworn you were shining right there on the verge
I never should have let you out of my sight
I never should have let that precious spirit escape
And I sing, to myself, I sing, to myself
I was wrong, wrong from the start
You could die out here from a broken heart
We were two wrongs, we were married at birth
And together make up an ugly flaming bird
Now my memory's shot I've got a bad technique
Could be driving in circles till the end of the week
But my vision is strong, and my vision is true
Look out now! I'll be so good for you!

Well .....
There's a spot on a map, its just a tiny dot
That's where my sweetie lives, you know that means a lot
I think of her sitting in the afternoon sun
Sitting and drinking and having fun.
I took a wrong turn, I took a wrong turn
I hit a lonely stretch
Rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham
Guide me back to the bosom of Abraham
So high can't get over it, so low can't get under it,
So wide can't get around it, I took a wrong turn.......

Nice choice Prkl. This track reminds me a bit of some of the stuff by Goth band Fields of the Nephilim but I think thats just because its dark and menacing.Reading my Rough Guide to Rock I see that they were an Aussie band and their vocalist was a big Velvets fan.Any band that hires a guitarist called "Evil" Graham Lee deserved to have greater success.

Heh, I'm not a huge fan of Fields of the Nephilim, but that's a sort of an apt comparison:

Fields of The Nephilim = goth band with country music influences
The Triffids = an indie folk/alt.country band with gothic influences

hmmm... not really my style of music. Sounds too much like 80s music too me. But i really liked the last minute, when the song speeds up a bit.

if anyone is in the mood for shimmeringly beautiful otherworldly-sounding music try the cocteau twins. the blue bell knoll, treasure and heavan or las vegas are among my favorites. :D

Seeing as 2 days are up,it's time for another track, now i may be breaking the rules with my choice,so if i am,ignore me :D
My choice is Amarok,by Mike Oldfield,it is also the name of the Album from which it comes from, there is only one track on the album, and it's all instrumental, but,it is totaly unique, and for the newcomer might need a couple of listens to get it,but it does have some wonderful playing on it,and is very well produced, everything is played by Mike, and i love it because it has so much going on in it,it is almost classical in form and in some ways is beyond explanation, you have to just listen to it.
And it is 60 minutes long, lol,so,if that is breaking the rules then, fair enough, but seeing as this is a Pink Floyd forum,it should be ok with you guys.
