Do you think Syd cried?

Post by Charade I am »

I came up with this one while I was driving in my car, listening to Wish You Were Here.....do you think Syd cried when he listened to Wish You Were Here for the first time? I mean, it must had been a pretty emotional experience for him.....

If he'd been in his 'right' state of mind i.e. not stoned or anything then I guess he could've. It's definitely an emotional song. Especially for him, I suppose.

In the world that Syd lives in, there was/is (unfortunately) no crying. I'm sure his attention span wouldn't have lasted through the first few bars of Shine On... before he said something like "Look, there's an airplane up in the sky" and lost interest in the band's tribute to him... :(

I almost feel guilty replying now.

Actually, I don't think that Syd would have, or ever has cried to this song. In fact, I don't think he holds heed to much of the WYWH album. It has been written in several places that when Syd was in the studio during the recording, he commented "this [music] sounds old." I don't think that he was impressed with it at all.

I also think that with his state of mind at the time, he may well have not even comprehended what the songs in WYWH were getting on about. He would have been so blisfully hidden in his world of fairy tales, that anything that required "typical" human emotion would have been rather foreign to him. To a person who is so swept away with fantasy, emotion is more of a constant "internalised" process. Rarely ever needing to be expressed to the world that exists outside of your own mind.

I doubt Syd knew it was about him the first time he listened to it.

well syd lives in a sort of surreal world, he doesnt know whats real or fake, thanks to LSD and child issues, even if he knew it was about him, i doubt he'd understand how much or what it meant

I don't think he cried, either. I think Pinky summed it up quite well.

I dont think he did either

I do feel he was aware of what the song was about but i just dont think he was to bothered about it.

I dont know why but i always suspected he might have found the whole situation rather funny........playing with his odd sence of humour.
