I thought I had heard that Dave Gilmour played some guitar on one of his records but I'd never heard of him before.

I just looked him up in the PF Encyclopedia. You can hear him on Roger's Three Wishes (Keyboards). David played the guitar on a couple of his songs on his 1988 album Dream Jungle.
