Your favourite Pink Floyd Live

Post by marlowe »

What is your favourite Pink FLoyd LIve? For me, it's a tie between Live at Pompeii and Live from Emerson Gym, Clevelend in '72? i'm not a fan of late Pink FLoyd, I much prefer their early stuff.

1970-1977 are my favortie. Though 1980-1994 were awesome, still not as great as the seventies.

I think that any Pink Floyd concert after The Wall concerts are too outlandish, and they don't have that same magic when there's just the 4 guys playing. The visuals are nice, but all of the back up parts make it a little "aurally overloading". Also, I think that the sax solo in later versions of Echoes just doesn't fit with the other timbres going on in the song.

Careful with That Axe Eugene-Hollywood Bowl Sept. 1972
(Honourable Mention:Oakland Coliseum May 1977,
last performance)
Set the Controls...-Maple Leaf Gardens March 1973
(Honourable Mention:Hollywood Bowl Sept.1972)
Echoes - Boston Gardens June 1975
One of these Days - Maple Leaf Gardens March 1973
DSOTM (Suite) - Empire Pool Wembley November 1974
(Honourable Mention:Ivor Wynne Stadium,Hamilton
June 1975* A Concert I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO!!!!!!
if I'd become a fan earlier!!!!!!)
WYWH (Full Performance) -MSG New York July 2,1977
Animals (Full Performance) - Oakland Coliseum May 1977*
*Best performance of Pigs-3 Different Ones

1974-1975 had a great number of quality live recordings-notable:
Wembley '74,L.A. ,Boston, and Hamilton '75

1977-Forth Worth,Anaheim,Oakland,New York+ and Montreal
+If the first half of the July 2nd MSG Show can be found it might
eclipse Oakland as the best live recording of 1977.

I'd have to go with Pompeii, although I'd love to hear a good quality version of a Syd era show. The two shows from 1967 that are available are preety good, or at least they would be if the recordings were any better.

I would have to say that Live at Pompeii is one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy ROIO's, however sometimes the quality of the ROIO takes away from the quality of the Floyd's music.

Very true! The modern stuff recorded on goo0d digital devices with high quality condenser microphones are rather impressive. The whole load of stuff from 1999, 2000 and 2002 tours from roger are great!!!

I will definitely have to take a listen. I have something of Waters from the late 80's and it is rather good quality. It's always nice to get a soundboard show from back in the day:) (The best quality one I have of any band being The Grateful Dead Munich '72)I don't recall if any of my Floyd shows are from a soundboard tap. One thing that I feel has helped the quality of the ROIO's that I have been getting are the SHN format as opposed to MP3. At first I really couldn't tell a difference, but now I can after listening to the SHN's for a while.

Great video! Love the version of Atom Heart Mother on that one. Careful With That Axe, Eugene was great as usual. 8)
