Embarrassing Question #4: Songs of Your Fathers

Post by Pugs on the Wing »

"There was nothing I hated more than to see a filthy old drunkie, a-howling away at the filthy songs of his fathers and going blurp blurp in between as if it were a filthy old orchestra in his stinking rotten guts. I could never stand to see anyone like that, especially when they were old like this one was."
-Alex in "A Clockwork Orange"

What is the most dreadful, awful piece of "music" that your parents ever played for you?

You will absolutely not believe this exists, but I remember hearing my parents put on a record called "The Singing Nun." You do not even want to know how awful this was.

My mum used to play me Andrew Loyd Webber stuff. Can't stand any of it, especially not Phantom Of The Opera (which rips of echoes so much) or Cats. John Denver to, although i did hear Rubber Soul at a young age. Loved it.

You're loving these new emoticons aren't you Keith?

My older brother tried to force me to listen to music with a lot of swearing, used to try and get me to memorise the songs.

You've used all of them in the space of like 4 posts. That's excessive.

hmm, my parents dont listen to bad music, just the Oldies station, which doesnt bother me at all, i grew up listening to it so i know all the songs. when i was in a carpool in middle school, the dad used to listen to classical music every morning, drove me nuts. the only good day was the day that canon in d major was played, i enjoyed that

Yeah, my parents listen to fairly decent music too. My dad is one of the big reasons I got into classic rock. My mom listens to the occasional 70's funk tune, which can be rather horrid at times, but that's really it for her. My dad likes Pressed Rat and Warthog by Cream, which I never could stand. But overall I've been pretty blessed.

I got lucky, my Mom was into really cool music. I was weened on the Beatles. Most of the music I listen to now, I've listened to for as long as I can remember. By the time I reached middle school, my music collection far exceeded hers. But now she listened to crappy modern country music. Yuck.

And Mother...that is one of my top 3 favorite films of all time!!! Along with "Vertigo" and "Citizen Kane". Haven't read the book though. :( Have it, just haven't read it...
