Ranks

Post by Keith Jordan »

I have now added a ranking system to the forum where you are awarded a "badge" based on the number of posts you have made. Here are the boundaries!

0000+ = New Member
0015+ = Getting regular
0150+ = Regular
0350+ = Very Regular
0500+ = Very Popular
1500+ = Top poster!!

Let me know what you people in our community think about the boundaries for attaining the different levels of status withing the community and the names themselves. I just put this together rather quickly as I am off to bed now!! Perhaps... :?:

I like them, but what about stars instead, they are a bit of an unusual thing to have.

Only other thing, i don't think we should use the term fan for people that post a lot, many proper fans have probably only just discovered the site.

Anyway, it makes me look better than like everyone else so it's a good idea :D

Maybe it is just me but "getting regular" and "regular" reminds me of bowel movements--no offense intended. I am one of the indifferent but the term reminds me of Metmucil or Ex Lax or something. :-k

The little guy looks like that guy from monopoly? I think it ought to be P-F related is all.

I voted no for the reasons that have already been stated:

-image looks too Monopoly board game and not Floydian enough...pyramids would be recognizable at a small iconic size.
And the icons crash into our avatars...sorry, I know I'm being a picky graphic designer. :-#

-"regularity" reminds me of BMs too. Perhaps these could be more Floyd-related as well (not to rip off other boards or anything).

Also, having your number of posts *and* the iconical representation is sort of redundant.

And the steps between seems sort or arbitrary:
0150+ = Regular
0350+ = Very Regular
0500+ = Very Popular

200 posts to get from regular to very regular, but only 150 to get from very regular to very popular? Seems a bit odd or off.

I'd be willing to change my vote to a yes...I just think there is a bit of redundancy, arbitrariness and unrelatedness to Floyd at this stage in the developoment is all.

I like the idea of a ranking system of some sort but would suggest that you get your first badge at lets say...........25 posts. That way they have to earn it a bit and it keeps them comming back.

0000+ = Newbie
0025+ = Axe
0150+ = Blade
0350+ = Knife
0500+ = Hammer
1500+ = Judge

I like these icons, but wouldn't Axe be after Hammer? (unless you're talking Floydian chronology? I'm thinking physical object)

I'm still having trouble with the 150-350-500 steps.

0100+ =
0250+ =
0500+ =
1000+ =
1500+ =

The problem I see with getting your first badge at 100 posts is that inevitably you're going to get the user who doesn't have any patience and will flood the "word associaltion" thread just to get to that first level. If you start at 25 at least it seems more attainable.
