Root beer tastes nothing like ginger beer.....
It's been 3 years since i tasted root beer for the first time while i was in the US.... I really can't describe the flavour..... we don't have it here in NZ either..... I love ginger beer tho..... and Coke gets my vote over Pepsi
There's a root (that's how it got its name) called Sasparilla or Sarsaparilla (sp?) or something like that, I think, that makes up the ingredients in rootbeer. Is rootbeer a very American sort of drink? I also think bubblegum sometimes has a similar flavor to rootbeer in a weird way. Gingerbeer is great when it's super strong and has bite. I can't stand many white sodas, though...they all taste the same to me. 7UP--boring....
What does everyone here think of Dr Pepper? I thought it tasted like that stuff you gurgle in a dentist's chair the first time I tried it, but I must admit that I've developed a vague taste for it since then...

I like it. I am a fan. Bring it on and pour it in!
Rootbeer comes from the sasafrass tree(I believe I spell it right).I live in the country and have helped my grandpa to dig it or when a tree is uprooted cot it off.It is a lot stronger smelling that way.It started out as sasafrass tea,I bet you could find that at your health-food stores there.I've had it made fresh that way & it is very good but not carbonated which is the way rootbeer is.

Is that related to sasparilla? (see my post above)
