The book is better but I saw the film for the first time about 3 weeks ago and I really thought it was great--real funny. You MUST read Hunter S Thompson books, though, much funnier. Johnny Depp was great! Not Now Neil wrote:The ultimate film about drug taking has to be 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' !!flashback wrote:Have you ever seen that dumb movie called Reefer Madness? It's really stupid.
Dr HST once stated in an interview that I saw that he greatly overstated his alcohol and drug use in his books. He said he would be dead if he had done that much! He said that he and attorney Acosta were consuming cases (!) of amyl nitrate "poppers", and tons of coke and psychedelics. Maybe the psychedelics (dangerous, though, as they can be) but the other stuff would end up giving these guys heart attacks at 35 or 40 or strokes or something.
Yeah I was quite shocked when I saw that film.. not because of the drug taking, but of how good a job Terry Gilliam made of it. I know he's made weird films before (12 monkeys etc) but I never knew he could make a film this cool!! The bizarre scenes in the 'circusy' casino made me feel stoned without so much as having a pint!! A funny, execellent film... I must check out the book then if it's better!
