Spidex, are you Vivien's nephew? Just curious! I hope I have not in any way offended you. I have been merely trying to present the facts....

It's called free speech.spikex wrote:I find it disgusting the way some people on here are allowed to make nasty comments about people they know nothing about.
If someone owns something that other people want more than them, then there is no problem selling it to the highest bidder. Perhaps Roger Keith Barrett was more than a letter to the person selling. Get over it. He is dead and his estate needs selling off. Simple as. It's perfectly natural so perhaps stop applying the double standards?

Syd'sSexy no I am not vivien's nephew
Keith I do not understand, I see nothing wrong with someone selling something to the highest bidder, it is the coments people are making about the seller

that I find distastefulI find this a shame, a great lack of sensitivity, taste and class or whatever:
you get a little silly poem from your former boyfriend, he then died, and u put it on auction for 1'000£?
fuck off bitch, is the only comment I can conceive now.

Agreed! The poem and painting were given to Vivien in 1965! That's 42 years ago, and she had held onto them for obvious sentimental reasons for all this time! I don't know what the circumstances are at this point (i.e. is Vivien deceased, etc.), but I guess you cannot fault the nephew any more than you can fault Syd's siblings for selling his possessions at auction in November! Just my two cents...

I agree. It's not very good, sadly.moom wrote:Honestly? If it wasn't a Syd's poem, it would cost very little. I know myself as I've been a lyricist for over 6 years now, and i see Syd made a lot of mistakes in this one...

No, it is really rather amateurish if comparing to "Syd standards." But he was 16-17 years old, so one cannot fault his creativity! No, the poem would never make the "Who's Who List of Poets," but it's really not that bad, IMO of course, but I am a bit biased...

But the prosody is utterly useless.
And of course he can be excused. He didn't have proper poetical education.

I might just have to place a bid! Syd's pen and ink "sketches" sold at the auction as a pair, sold for a bloody fortune! At 1,000 pounds, this is a bargain!

Do I have one, and now look at me - I mastered the thing myself, and so did Syd: his floydian and solo stuff IS pretty much poetical. It's just that EVERY poet makes mistakes in the beginning .PublicImage wrote:

Until one has mastered poetical metre, form and all of the other aspects of prosody, thenmoom wrote:Do I have one, and now look at me - I mastered the thing myself, and so did Syd: his floydian and solo stuff IS pretty much poetical. It's just that EVERY poet makes mistakes in the beginning .
one is most definitely not a proper poet.
Poetry in prose ("free poetry") is generally awful. Give me a set of iambic pentameters any day.
But yes, of course Syd improved after a few years.
Yes, it is. I would definitely sell it if I owned it.cRaB wrote:is it only 'bout the money uh, buddy?
