Ask Roger

Post by Hadrian »

In a rather unexpected move, Roger is taking questions on his website. Presumably he will post his answers to the inquiries he likes there too.

Check it out at: https://rogerwaters.com/ask-roger/

No timeline was given on this, but it was posted yesterday (so, ask fast).

Waters being a fan of Gilmour!

0:27 Gilmour more interested in playing Donkey Kong than contributing to 'The Final Cut' - it must have hurt Waters writing an album as tribute to his father!

That wasn't much fun, because all I had was what's his name, sitting in the back playing Donkey Kong, and telling me what a load of crap it was.

After Barrett left, Waters was the most consistent songwriter. I've yet to discover any Gilmour, Wright or Mason compositions which were rejected by Waters. On the contrary, he used a tune which Gilmour didn't care to finish and release himself. ('Comfortably Numb')
If anyone got rejected, especially by Gilmour, it was Waters trying to write a new album after 'The Wall'.

Maybe if Gilmour would have been more supportive, Waters wouldn't have left.
Maybe there could have been 'A Momentary Lapse of Reason' with Waters...

I guess it is difficult to gauge who was doing and saying what back then, and how the pressures of fame was affecting them all mentally! They had a good run, but a person can't keep on like they did forever.

Perhaps David had had enough of Roger being in control and dominating with his visions. Perhaps perfectionist Roger had enough of a more laid back blues band who was perhaps more interested in melody than politics. Richard was battling his depression and perhaps didn't have the energy to contribute more and got fired! Nick seemed to take it all in his stride.

If only they would get in a room together and try to get on! God knows what that Roger has written in his memoirs!

For those who are following Roger's answers to fan questions online (X, Threads, Facebook), he just announced a brand new studio album with new material. The Bar will be on it, possibly bookending it as a beginning/end.

I hope the link works, here it is

The new information is that the new Roger Waters album is called The Bar. I think he started it at the same time as the Lockdown Sessions...

The Indian summer of an 80-year-old Waters is truly fascinating. If The Bar album comes out in 2024 (I presume it will), that will be third year in a row in this new album-a-year mode [-D-]

It's better to burn out than to fade away

I will preorder The Bar on day one for true.

I'm holding off on Dark Side Acid Reflux.

Well, the latest answer is indeed Music from the Body (of sorts), majestically ending with hernia.

Take a look:
