David Gilmour’s New Album Recording Session Photo

A photograph appeared on the internet showing David Gilmour recording his much rumoured new album in Hove, Brighton. Backing singer Durga McBroom said of the photo, “GUESS WHAT?? LOL!! This is me, Sarah Brown, Louise Clare Marshall, and this funny dude we found strumming a guitar in Hove. His wife Polly leaked the photo on Instagram. Naughty girl!” Late on last year, singer Graham Nash also confirmed David is working on a new album. The excitement builds, although nothing officially confirmed as of yet. David Gilmour last toured a new album in 2006 when he treated people around the world to some impressive renditions of his On An Island album. On An Island Re-Release (USA) Review

On An Island Re-Release (USA) Review

David Gilmour and Richard Wright performing at David’s 60th Birthday party. David Gilmour’s third solo album On An Island (OAI) was first released on his 60th birthday back on 6th March 2006. Indeed, he celebrated his 60th at Porchester Hall in London at which he performed some songs with his 2006 touring band before they went off to travel the world touring the new album. It is therefore slightly surprising that, less than 9 months later, the album is re-released! This time though with a separate bonus DVD. Naturally, Gilmour used the media to his advantage to publicise the first offering of OAI, the first solo effort for many years, which included magazine interviews, radio interviews and, of course, TV and the internet! One such event for the internet was the AOL Session he did in April 2006. These sessions, along with a performance from the Royal Albert Hall and...

Making The Wire Figure By David MacIlwaine

David MacIlwaine is the artist responsible for the iconic “Wire Man” sculpture used in the artwork of David Gilmour’s 2006 album On An Island. It also features on Gilmour’s website in an animated form. David the artist has kindly shared with NPF Magazine how the sculpture and use of it in Gilmour’s 3rd solo album came about. David has also shared some of his other “Wire People” with us! ————————————————– Above: Photo of original “Wire Man” Sculpture by David MacIlwaine standing 20cm tall. Below: edited image used on Gilmour’s album. The origin of the wire figure used on the cover and CD of ‘On an Island’ goes like this: About two years ago David invited me to a performance he gave at the South Bank, I’m afraid I’ve forgotten the exact date and the title. I was completely mesmerised by David’s playing and by the extraordinary contained intensity of his...
