Pink Floyd & Hipgnosis – Masters of Album Cover Art Exhibition 2014

St Pauls Gallery in Birmingham are exhibiting fine art print album cover art including pieces from Pink Floyd, 10CC, Led Zeppelin and others. The event is a celebration of the output from design house Hipgnosis where Aubrey Powell (pictured right) and the late Storm Thorgerson led the design team to create some of the most iconic album cover art in the history of music. Pink Floyd have had a long relationship with Storm Thorgerson and Hipgnosis. Storm was a childhood friend of the band growing up in Cambridge and produced many of Pink Floyd’s album covers. The excellent book Mind Over Matter: The Images of Pink Floyd is an excellent document of the amazing work produced by Hipgnosis for the Pink Floyd; additionally, The Album Art of Hipgnosis also covers Pink Floyd but is a comprehensive document of some of the cutting edge creative output of Hipgnosis. Certainly worth looking...

Listen to Rare Animals Album Demo Recordings

Three studio quality demo recordings have become available that were made as part of the process of recording Pink Floyd’s Animals album. You can listen to Sheep, Dogs and Pigs below with alternative lyrics and often completely different production.  Sheep, for example, is very similar to “Raving and Drooling” as they used to refer to it when they first started playing it live. Your humble webmaster much prefers the old live version to the final studio recording! Fans were treated to all kinds of alternate takes, demos and live recordings as part of the Immersion Edition released from the band. Check out those if you find these historical articles of interest. Listen and enjoy below, and discuss them on the forum whilst you listen. Roger Waters with Nadia and Masha from Pussy Riot

Roger Waters And Pussy Riot – Amnesty International Party

Roger Waters has attended an Amnesty International event in New York where he met, amongst others, members of the Pussy Riot protest band. Yoko Ono was also at the private party hosted by David and Lara Ross. Roger Waters said at the party, “I’m here because friends need support. The most important thing to me is that Pussy Riot resist Putin and his regime“. It was only recently that Nadia and Masha, some of the Pussy Riot band members who have now since left, were in prison for their political activities in Russia after upsetting President Putin with their hooliganism. Pussy Riot  are about feminism, separatist resistance, the fight against authoritarianism and personality cults. Masha and Nadia are no longer members of the group, and will no longer take part in radical actionism. Now they are engaged in a new project, as institutionalised advocates of prisoners’ rights. Roger has been political from...
