David Gilmour Honoured

David Gilmour Honoured

Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour and Jools Holland have confessed to being more nervous at receiving honours from the Queen than they were playing concerts. They received their honours on 7th November. Holland, 45, and Gilmour, 59, both said they could never have imagined their music would take them as far as Buckingham Palace. Gilmour, receiving a CBE for services to music, joked that the Queen had probably never even listened to Pink Floyd. “I suspect that if she has listened to Pink Floyd it has been one of her children or grandchildren playing it and she is more likely to be the one to say ‘turn it off’,” said the guitarist. “But I do not know her taste in music.” When asked what the Queen had said when he collected his honour Gilmour disclosed: “She said Pink Floyd had been doing it for a very long time and I...

Michael Kamen Dies

Michael Kamen Dies

Michael Kamen, the Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated composer who fused hard-rock riffs with classical styling in albums for Pink Floyd and provided music for the “Lethal Weapon” and “Die Hard” movies,” has died at age 55.   Kamen collapsed in his London home Tuesday of an apparent heart attack, according to his Los Angeles-based publicist, Jeff Sanderson. Kamen collaborated with a wide range of artists, from the London Philharmonic to Aerosmith, Metallica and jazz saxophonist David Sanborn. Among his most famous collaborations was on the orchestral arrangements in Pink Floyd’s 1979 album “The Wall.” He also worked with the band on the albums “The Final Cut” and “The Division Bell.”...

O’Rourke’s Funeral – Floyd Play

O’Rourke’s Funeral – Floyd Play

Steve O’Rourke’s funeral was held yesterday (14th Nov) at Chichester Cathedral in Sussex, England. As part of the service David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason performed two songs as part of the service for their long term manager. Pink Floyd are believed to have performed Fat Old Sun and Great Gig In The Sky. Dick Parry, Floyd’s touring saxophonist, played saxophone whilst following behind the coffin. It would seem that, during the funeral, the coffin caught fire! Smoldering embers from an incence stick caused the coffin to smoulder!
