With the Division Bell soon to have it’s 20th Anniversary, and in addition to the new boxset and LP releases, there is a wonderful new music video for the song Marooned from The Division Bell album. The video is set in Chernobyl after the famous nuclear power incident caused the entire area to be abandoned due to contamination. Eerie and spooky. You can watch that below. Marooned is an instrumental piece and was written by David Gilmour and Rick Wright. Many of the songs on The Division Bell album had lyrics written by David’s wife, Polly Samson. Polly would go on to write many of the lyrics on David’s On An Island album too and she is also working on David Gilmour’s new album. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason will be participating at an “In Conversation” event for Borders book store. The event takes place on Thursday 12th June 2014 in Melrose on the Scottish Borders where Nick will be interviewed by comedian Rory Bremner. Tickets are priced at £10 (£8 with concessions) and more information about the event can be found on the Borders Book Festival website. Nick Mason wrote the book Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd which is an excellent document of the history of Pink Floyd as seen through the eyes of Nick Mason. Perhaps the views expressed in the book are not necessarily the views shared by Roger Waters and David Gilmour who famously fell out many moons ago. Nick Mason certainly is the archivist of the band and I bet he has all sorts of flyers, programmes, personal photographs which document the lives of Pink Floyd members...
Pink Floyd co-founder and principal songwriter Roger Waters has penned a new song for Marianne Faithfull’s new album Give My Love to London. The album will be released in September 2014 and does not feature Roger Waters performing as a musician. Some will be disappointed by that, others less so. The new album also features music contributions from Nick Cave, Steve Earle, Anna Calvi, Pat Leonard and Tom McRae, to which Faithfull supplied lyrics. The backing band is made up of Warren Ellis and Tikovoi along with Portishead’s Adrian Utley and Ed Harcourt. Warren Ellis and Jim Sclavunos of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds are featured as special guests. This is the second song Roger has let Marianne record – she did a recording of the 1968 Roger Waters song Incarceration of a Flower Child, which is assumed to be written about the late Syd Barrett. It would seem the countdown timer on the new Division Bell official website was counting down to the announcement of two new 20th Anniversary Editions of the Division Bell album. The album is to be released on a new Vinyl 2LP Edition and a Deluxe Box Set on 30th June 2014. This coincides with the 20th Anniversary of the album. Some people had been speculating that a new Pink Floyd tour and other odd things were going to be announced. Alas, it is only lots more goodies to get your hands on! As you will likely remember, there were very extensive box sets released for Wish You Were Here, The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon as part of the Why Pink Floyd extensive release schedule.
