Pink Floyd’s frontman David Gilmour has lent his support to the Featured Artists’ Coalition (FAC).  According to the FAC website, “The Featured Artists’ Coalition campaigns for the protection of performers’ and musicians’ rights. We want all artists to have more control of their music and a much fairer share of the profits it generates in the digital age. We speak with one voice to help artists strike a new bargain with record companies, digital distributors and others, and are campaigning for specific changes“. Guitarist and solo star David Gilmour was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution title at the 2008 Q Awards with Russian Standard Vodka – then dedicated it to late Pink Floyd bandmate Rick Wright. Collecting the award, Gilmour said of Wright – who died last month – “he deserves this just as much as I do”. And to a standing ovation, Gilmour dedicated a toast to his friend and colleague who played keyboards in Floyd for many years. Gilmour’s stunning performances have been gracing best-selling recordings for four decades, since joining Floyd in 1968 to fill in for Syd Barrett and taking an ever dominant role in the writing and direction as well as providing the band’s signature guitar sound. Following the recent death of Richard Wright, Radio 2 presents the story of his days in Pink Floyd, told entirely in Richard’s own voice.  It is to be broadcast this Saturday 11th October 2008 at 7pm on BBC Radio 2. Drawing from BBC archive and an exclusive interview conducted by producer Mark Hagen in September 2007, the last radio interview that Wright gave, Richard offers his unique and now sadly poignant perspective on 40 years as a member of one of the world’s all time great rock bands. Music, all composed by Richard, includes Remember A Day, Us & Them, The Great Gig in the Sky, Sysyphus, Echoes, Wearing The Inside Out and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
