Links – Discuss the album | Guardian Newspaper article | Pink Floyd Bryan Ferry will release a new solo album called Olympia on 25th October 2010 which features Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. The recording also features Ferry’s old band mates Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and Brian Eno from Roxy Music and is the first time the band has worked together since 1973. Other people involved with the album include Nile Rodgers from Chic, the Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, people from Radiohead, Scissor Sisters and Mani from Primal Scream. Sounds like an album to look forward to which features (in general) an excellent array of talent! It was all in aid of the Hoping Foundation Benefit Evening on 10th July 2010 which was compared by Fearne Cotton! They played four songs including ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Comfortably Numb’ and ‘Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)’. They performed four songs before 200 guests, accompanied by Guy Pratt (on bass and acoustic guitar), Harry Waters (on keyboards), Andy Newmark (on drums), Chester Kamen (on guitar) and Jonjo Grisdale (also on keyboards). On Tuesday July 13, 93 Feet East will host ‘Interstellar’, a night for the benefit of the Syd Barrett Fund. This event is part of the Syd Barrett Fund’s activity to mark forty years since Syd’s debut solo album was released, and follows a gig at the Tunbridge Wells Forum in June and a charity walk from London to Cambridge over Easter. The Syd Barrett Fund was set up by Syd’s sister Rosemary Breen following his death in 2006. The fund exists to support the work of Escape Artists, a socially inclusive arts charity, based in Cambridge and London.
