BBC Radio 2 Documentary on Syd Barrett

Resources & Links BBC Radio 2 | Discuss On Forum | Syd Barrett Photos | Newsnight Obituary Video BBC Radio 2 are to broadcast a documentary about Syd Barrett as part of their 60s Season of documentaries. It will be broadcast on Saturday 14 July 2007 between8pm to 9pm and is called The Thing About Syd. The programme comes up to date with an exploration of Barrett’s passing and the fulsome tributes in the media with comments from editors and journalists about what made Barrett so special when his entire recorded output is just 3 albums. The programme features interviews with members of Pink Floyd, manager Peter Jenner, Phil Alexander editor of Mojo, Allan Jones editor of Uncut and others. Resources & Links Uncut Magazine | Discuss on Forum | A rare Pink Floyd promo video for “Jughead Blues” is to be screened on TV for the first time, as part of a new BBC documentary series “The Seven Ages Of Rock.” The promo video was made by the Central Office of Information (COI) primarily for North American, Canadian and Australian television and is made up of small shorts including talking computors and see-through teapots. “Jughead Blues” was the final video that Syd Barrett was included in before he was replaced by Roger Waters. The new series will also feature a multitude of rare and never-seen-before film footage, including the first known broadcast of an alternate promo for the Floyd single “Arnold Layne” as well as home-made film footage of the band in 1967.
