Today, we celebrate what would have been the 80th birthday of a true musical legend, Richard Wright. As the visionary keyboardist of Pink Floyd, Wright’s beautiful soundscapes and exploratory harmonies played an integral part in creating the band’s distinct, immersive sound.

From the dreamy chords in ‘Us and Them’ to the hypnotic textures of ‘Echoes’, Wright’s contributions were the heart of Pink Floyd’s psychedelic canvas, creating a sonic backdrop against which the band painted their legendary, era-defining music. He was not just a keyboard player; he was a sound explorer, a space weaver, and an ethereal architect of Pink Floyd’s iconic sound.

Wright may have departed this world, but his legacy continues to live on, touching the hearts of millions, inspiring countless musicians, and reshaping the landscape of rock music as we know it. Today, we remember and honour him. Happy birthday, Richard Wright.

Rick’s friends, family and colleagues attended the Dolby Screening Room in London last night – 27th July 2023. Here is what Guy Pratt had to say about the event.

“What a perfect way to set up Rick’s 80th birthday. Playback of Wet Dream at the sublime Dolby Screening Room. Fabulously well attended by friends, family, Press etc to the point that there had to be 2 sessions. Then I got to interview and do a Q and A with my pal Steven Wilson about his beyond amazing work on the album. Atmos mixing especially is an exponential learning curve and Steven is one of the most experienced, and in my opinion, best practitioner of it, that’s why he’s entrusted with so many important albums. Hats off to Gala and Jamie for overseeing this project, and listening to me when I suggested Steven…Also thanks to Warners and everyone else involved. (I would’ve posted more pics but they’re hi res and Facebook doesn’t like it..)”.
