Roger Waters Record Store Day Release April 2024
Roger Waters is supporting Record Store Day 2024 by releasing a picture disc edition of his Dark Side of the Moon Redux. The event takes place annually and allows artists and fans alike to support independent stores selling Vinyl in the UK and USA. This year’s event takes place on 20th April 2024.
There will only be 3,000 copies of this picture disc available meaning this is very much a collectors item. Each of them is individually numbered so highly collectable indeed. There were 9 separate coloured versions of the album available when originally released and this is an additional one. Some of the other coloured ones had less than 3,000.
The printing technique looks fantastic and uses technology similar to Dark Side 50th Anniversary Edition picture disc which is released the day before on 19th April 2024. If you have an amazing looking record you don’t want it hidden away which is why the record sleeve is die cut meaning the picture is on display.
How to purchase?
You will have to physically visit a record store to purchase the picture disc in the primary market. That is the point of the campaign. If somehow they are not sold on 20th April then they may end up online on retailers website, and I am sure eBay will have some at extortionate prices from scalpers. Previous Releases by Pink Floyd
Over the years, Pink Floyd and its members have contributed various special releases to Record Store Day events. Here are some highlights:
Piper at the Gates of Dawn Re-release (2018): Pink Floyd re-released their debut album, “Piper at the Gates of Dawn,” on vinyl for Record Store Day 2018. This edition was a limited release, remastered from the original 1967 mono mix. It included a poster and a foil wallet with the album’s iconic trippy cover art. This album is particularly significant as it was the only one released when Syd Barrett was a full member of the band, featuring the track “Interstellar Overdrive.”
Arnold Layne Live Recording (2020): For Record Store Day 2020, Pink Floyd released a live recording of “Arnold Layne,” the band’s first single and a well-known song by original singer and songwriter Syd Barrett. This release was a limited edition, one-sided 7″ vinyl single with new artwork. It represented the last live performance of the song by Pink Floyd with David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright together in 2007. This performance was part of the Syd Barrett tribute concert, The Madcap’s Last Laugh, at The Barbican Theatre, London.
